Log into Facebook. Don't do it often. Second thing i see is Nigel Farage's feed. Meta's new policy feels more consequential than the madness of Twitter tbh: people won't give up on Facebook, instagram, WhatsApp so easily.

Logged out and uninstalled all meta apps earlier this week. Bluesky is the last bastion for reasonable social media. Most people don't realize how much they are being manipulated on meta now.
Is there legit comp to Insta? That’s the hardest to give up IMO … a lot of folks did away with Facebook before this and what’s app is simple replacement - tons of other options.
Absolutely. In the metaphor, FB has always had cameras in your home watching you as you spoke with your friends. Now, they're also going to let trolls come in and yell at you...
Had it for the past few weeks. Hadn’t been on it for a year or so but looked at it out of curiosity. Got Farage, Katie Hopkins and about 6 different ‘old Britain’ style nostalgia pages with some absolutely vile racists comments. Very worrying.
Facebook is difficult for people to leave as it’s the go to connection with lots of old friends, distant relatives, acquaintances, etc. But arguably it’s WhatsApp that presents the biggest barrier for people to be Meta free.
It's literally the perfect alternative that you're saying doesn't exist. Not sure how someone who uses social media doesn't know about it, it sounds as ridiculous to me as not knowing what Instagram is, but I digress. I promise you it's not hard.
I've not used it for years except to run business sites and occasionally contact old friends. Checked in today and was delivered 'A Voice for Britain' which is a feed of lovely right-wing posts from the likes of Darren Grimes. No way it should appear.
I gave up on facebook ow was before I dropped it a growing swamp of hatred, prejudice, racism, hatred of women , a total lack of people who have ever read the constitution (or any book) the only 2nd amendment, threats of violence etc. the new rules to be rule less makes me so happy I found Bluesky.
Deleting the account(s)? You’re right. But… delete the apps off phones and that will make a huge impact on the collective to ‘chill the eff out’ I think.
I live in rural BC in a small community & the amount of people that rely on FB for EVERYTHING out here is startling. Nobody sells anything used other than on FB marketplace, coincidentally I’ve never been more sexually harassed online from random men than I have selling on that platform. Over it.
Insta, WhatsApp, threads, Twitter (except for several old accounts I have to tract down) … gone. FB/messenger are more complicated but I’m whittling away at it. With messenger I need to make sure my people know how to reach me.
Last time I logged into Facebook was because my dad said his friend had just dropped a bombshell about her deceased husband. Isn't going to get better than that so preparing to delete my account.
I was barely on the first two - deleted my Facebook in 2019; Insta more recently - but WhatsApp is so much more tough because my school, work, and home life is coordinated on it. And if you know South Asian families and WhatsApp... It's really a dilemma, especially now, with this horrid policy.
Too many so-called principled people "don't want to get into an awkward conversation with friends on why they left" because those so called friends will judge or abandon them.
Seriously, is this how most people are. How can we survive as a species this way?
I left FB in 2016 as a matter of principle. And, yes, I was judged by family and friends.
So bizarre. It’s like I offended them by having personal standards and honouring them. Too bad, I say.🤷🏽♀️
It's like they can't even remember that, not that long ago, none of this social media shit existed, and we managed to keep up with relationships and meet new people just fine for literally thousands of years. You don't need meta to connect to people.
Well, if you don't mind the monoliths, don't forget Skype. For a modest fee you can SMS from Skype. They have a pay-per-message option, and the voice and video calls are pretty good, really, and free.
I've been on FB for like 20 years. Let my friends know I was deleting all meta and I'm out. Insta was painless, but I liked Threads. Done w Zucky boy though. Could you be a bigger coward? The men that swarm Dumpy are such weak willed cowards.
Yes. I went on (to find out about a local library being downsized) & amazed to see popping up "Starmer about to be ousted" stories. Perhaps algorithm didn't know what to offer because I rarely go onto site but even so never been offered blatantly incorrect political "news" before - it worried me.
All of my posts were being limited so heavily that I gave up. I found myself commenting on posts and them being reported. Meta was a hellscape that I mentally am happy to be free of. I have committed to talking with real people everyday about what is truth. I think I can reach more people face2face
Telegraph is the other option you’ll hear, but it’s owned by a Russian tech-bro who is rumoured to have connections to Putin. It’s also closed source, so can’t be checked to see how secure / private it really is. Two red flags for me…
Agree. I did just give up on facebook. Keeping insta (haven’t seen any difference recently - in stark contrast to FB where the right wing ads have been hitting me for a few weeks now - but who knows what will happen). WhatsApp I hope I won’t have to change…

They’re not impacted by wider changes and provide a valuable community service.
And there appears to be no way to accept only postings from those groups.
I left FB in 2016 when he started cosying up then but many of my friends are still on it. My kids however *never had it*
And both have left Insta too..
You post into a void.
Do you see your friends posts and photos? No. But here’s
Right wing bullshit.
Blatant racism shared to your page? Facebook doesn’t remove it because somebody felt like it didn’t break service terms.
There, I said it.

That should be reason ENOUGH to leave Facebook and Meta for effs sake.
Emails are free.
And the announcement of stopping fact checking!
It’s pretty much a drop in replacement for WhatsApp. Ultra private and secure, and not owned by a billionaire.
