I was just discussing this with my partner yesterday. We're millennials. We were both made redundant in 2008 and spent many years looking for good quality, secure employment. I once went for a mass interview for a single entry-level role with about 30 candidates, a process that took all day.

Over 8 million people in the UK are on anti-depressants. The doctor even offered them to me (I went in for a BP check).

I refused them. I don't want anti-depressants to help me cope with what the world has become - I want a better world.

We need a healthy society not sticking plasters.

Don't get me wrong: there are those with psychological / medical issues for which anti-depressants are the right thing. However, as a society, we deserve more than just being helped to cope. We need better politicians, better services, better paid jobs... rather than pills to help us put up with BS.

I once read that teachers having nervous breakdowns was a natural reaction to the amount of stress caused by their jobs. I got out in 2017 when I couldn't sleep because of overwork / the guilt and fear I felt when not over-working.

It's obscene what people are put through because of BS systems.

I think that Medics are never going to come out and talk about the issue of how come we have so many people unable to work with mental health diagnoses. So sadly it’s left to politicians to try to clumsily walk into these things and it’s very hard to set the right tone. Think it’s more nuanced!
