This is correct but I'd add it's doubly true for connections-based patronagey type jobs. There are probably 40 different white dudes who get told that they were next in line to get the plum firefighter job if they hadn't been forced to hire that one black guy.

Like...we all went to law school with at least a few people who got jobs at firms because of their last name. And yet they blame DEI
At my old factory (I work as an industrial chemist) I had two separate Hispanic plant managers who were MAGA or MAGA-lite. The latter guy ended up leaving because he thought the job was forcing him to be too cruel to the workers. Complicated stuff.
