It seems weird to me too, but I knew a self-described vegan who said her objection to consuming animal products was limited to exploitative situations, which meant she could have her chickens’ eggs or her bees’ honey or engage in fellatio.

Eggs come from factory farming to be supplied in the quantities they are. These "vegans" also drink cows milk, eat cheese? Just completely ridiculous. Just call yourself a vegetarian, the word is right there! That's what they are and we all know it and agree on that term.

The woman I'm referring to exclusively got eggs from her own chickens, which were not kept in factory conditions or quantities. (And she did not drink milk, though I suppose she might if she'd been able to accommodate a goat in her already busy animal husbandry life.)

the dynamic here is that grocery stores are either 1) pricing them at $3-$5 dozen, well below market, and immediately running out, as Trader Joe's and Costco are, or 2) pricing them at market clearing prices of $7-$10/dozen and keeping them in stock but unaffordable
