I wonder how many people got the subtle pun in Vesper Lynd’s name. A woman of divided loyalties is meant to sound phonetically like “West Berlin”. It’s possible even during the Cold War people didn’t get it and Fleming went with more gynecological surnames.

It’s funny looking back on this cast that I had seen but didn’t know. Sure I’d seen Daniel Craig in Road to Perdition, Layer Cake and a Kid in King Arthur’s Court, but those weren’t roles that screamed “make that guy the next James Bond!”

Mass Mikkelsen’s career in the US just boomed after this. He’s been the bad guy in everything; Marvel, Hannibal, Indiana Jones, Wizarding World. The exception being Star Wars, were he was a sympathetic ally.

I look at James Bond the same way I look at Max Rockatansky and The Man With No Name. They are legends and each movie is just a person around the camp fire telling a story they have heard about the legend. It makes perfect sense with The Man and Max but I think it works for James Bond too.
