The history of Fort Lauderdale started more than 4,000 years ago when the first aboriginal natives lived there and later the Tequesta Indians who lived there for over a thousand years. Now it has over 1,800 inhabitants. Shiny skyscrapers and luxury homes line the canals and mainland city.
