did this on the funky bikes from our air bnb with our toddler in the handle bar seat. Thrilling/freaky. bike traffic in Amsterdam is serious but I also saw a bus hit a dead stop for bike right of way. Pro tip for visiting pedestrians: stay out of the bike lane or someone will definitely yell at you
Well. What is a pedestrian doing in the bike lane (fietspad) anyway? Just like a bike is not supposed to be on the sidewalk (although often cyclists often write their own traffic rules)..
Uhm... First two rules of riding a bike here in Amsterdam:
1) Use at least three locks to prevent your bike from getting stolen.
2) Steal another one once your bike was stolen anyway...
I can’t tell you how many times I nearly got run over by a speeding bike in Amsterdam within a week during my visit last October. Comparatively, the Copenhagen bike riding culture is more chill and relax, far more safer for pedestrians!
As a dane i bike every day. Denmark is flat so its pretty easy. Front and back lights are a good idea for safety when its dark (in Denmark it is mandatory by law). And maybe even a cool helmet for protection.
Thank you for sharing this article. Many American cities would greatly benefit from reducing car congestion by promoting bikes and public transportation. It improves safety, health and also the economy.

What's the last sound an American tourist in Amsterdam hears?
Ding ding!
It was stolen the first time she took it out. She got a replacement. It was stolen while locked behind her house.
