kinda started with goldwater. since eisenhower, there has only been one republican who did not use racism, homophobia, behind the scenes negotiations with the enemy (twice), and other dirty trick. That would be ford, who's main black mark was pardoning nixon.

Arguably, Mitch was the most traitorous, in terms of changing American history for at least the next 50 years, but he belongs on the same bookshelf as Nixon contacting the Vietnamese to sabotage peace talks, Reagan contacting the Iranians to DELAY releasing the hostages, and trump for everything.

Trump is the logical extension of Reagan. The Reagan hagiographers who are now ardent anti-Trumpers are simply blind to this reality. His cynical embrace of evangelical bigots in exchange for repudiation of progressive taxes and demonization of welfare,exaltation of greed led directly to Trump.

Great timeline. You could go back to the 1930s-1960s, starting with many Republicans working with the American fascist movement, through the McCarthy era, through the Birchers.

Chenault was ambassador to Vietnam under Nixon. She played a role in negociating with the Vietnamese govmnt to sabotage the Democrat Presidential candidate.

I will take a look, but I don’t have too because I have been watching them unfold for about 30 years. Firsthand in a small Michigan town, as our community was defunded, as a matter of “conservative policy.”
