Decades of watch- from- the sofa superhero movies and outrageous plots, bad acting, worse scripts and mediocre, predictable writing I would argue have had an effect of some sort. Hard to say what, and I could be completely wrong. Illiteracy and mainstream media likely=similar effect, historically?

A friend of mine used to order actual distilled-in-the-woods moonshine. You had to order it in code ("I'll have the house special") from the guy behind the counter at the local hardware store, and in the middle of the night the mountain men would leave a brown paper parcel on your back doorstep. 😂

The German experience may not be apt, because they were coming off a terrible depression, hyperinflation, and a crushing defeat in war. USA has none of that going on, and had a great economy before trump.
