Liar Greg Abbott says he has refused to set a special election to fill the seat of recently diseased Democratic Rep. Sylvester Turner because he says Harris County doesn’t do their elections properly.

Well, if dictator says elections are bad, then no more elections. 🤷🏻♂️ We kinda stopped enforcing remotely-fair elections some time ago. States can do whatever they want now.
Not to be dramatic, but I think birds have a Slack channel where they post Tesla locations like
“⚠️ New Model Y just parked near the fountain. Hit it with everything you’ve got.”
and they DO
Funny. Except doing that makes you as low as he is. Remember when Trump mimicked the handicapped reporter? You just did the same thing. You must be so proud of your clever comment. Said by a guy who uses a wheelchair and doesn’t find it at all amusing
this looks similar to when the NC Congress tried to send their electoral college to DC instead of the election. seems this level of absurdity is quite casual for repubs, which are 1/3 of the nation.
This guy is why Texas is the best representative of what a shit-hole the US is fast approaching with Trump in the White House. And that Jerk-Off school guy in Oklahoma.
So if it's been a repeat failure, WHY HAVENT YOU DONE YOUR JOB AND REMEDY THE SITUATION. You know who's responsible, make them do their job....or is it that its convenient having the empty chair. Abbott is just one of the maga bootlickers
The amazing thing is that no matter how horrible you think he is, Ken Paxton is 10x worse. Harris County is pretty damn blue. The Dems could run my cat for election and win, especially these days.
Do you know how he became crippled and then got into politics? He was jogging/walking in a very nice neighborhood in Houston (Harris County) when a tree branch fell on him. He sued the homeowners and won $15 million. He then signed laws limiting other people’s ability to sue for similar amounts.
It's hard to believe how much voter suppression is going on & it's all Republicans. They won't call elections they're supposed to. They challenge if they lose. They try to have ballots eliminated. It only happens when they lose. Poor sports is what we would have called them as children.
The turd & congress are acting like King George III & The British Parliament circa 1775. How long before we go full colonist to return this nation to where it should be?
Was doing a 3-month contract job in Dallas/Ft Worth in 2000 and many Texans I worked with wanted W to win the presidential election to get him out of Texas because he was such a bad governor.
Elections are the sole purview of again congress not the executive but hey monkey see monkey do * no offense to actual monkies and no monkies were haranged in the process of this comment... giggles 😜
Pretty sure not holding an election when you're supposed to is illegal if not constitutional unless they weren't written properly either. Sad when you have to simply not call an election because you know you'd get caught cheating.
This from another disgusting Republican who killed immigrants in the Rio Grande, but @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social is 'threatening" to sue over this special election.
He should follow state & fed laws that require timely special elections when a congressional seat becomes vacant. TX law mandates an election w/in 36 to 70 days, ensuring voters r represented. Delaying it risks violating citizens’ rights & undermines democratic principles. Enough of his bs!
While it’s valid to highlight issues w/ both Abbott & Drumpf, let’s stay focused on the immediate concern; delaying the special election. Fed courts have been striking down some of D’s EOs, showing that checks & balances are at work. Accountability is happening through legal channels at all levels.
Citizens whose voting rights are violated by delays in a special election can file a class action lawsuit with groups like the ACLU or Texas Civil Rights Project. Legal action can help ensure timely elections and protect citizens’ right to fair representation.
The Dems should show up at his office in massive protests every single day. There must be also be legal recourse and meaningful consequences for this horrible excuse for a human being.
Totally agree! Massive protests can be a powerful way to show how serious we are about holding them accountable. It brings attention to the issue and sends a strong message that voters won’t back down. But we also need legal action to ensure lasting change.
Unfortunately, it might come to that if he continues to ignore the law. But you’re right, it’s frustrating when it gets to the point where legal action is necessary. Hopefully, citizens and organizations will step up to ensure we get the timely elections we deserve. 💙💙💙
I get the frustration. If the state courts don’t rule in favor, we can appeal to federal courts. The ACLU can take it to federal court if constitutional rights are at stake.
How the fuck is any of this legal? Answer it isn't... While Dems tried to first win elections the GOP focused on installing criminals throughout the judiciary so they could gerrymander at will and flat out rig elections
Unfortunately Texas is an apartheid state & he will get away with this unless some international election watchers come in & make sure Houstonites are allowed their election
The government in Texas has a lock, which is why we can’t have change and why Greg Abbott feels embolden to say he won’t hold elections to fill Sylvester Turner’s seat
In a democracy that wouldn’t be allowed
When I think of apartheid I think of strict segregation like South Africa during apartheid. I would agree that democracy is not flourishing in Texas government.
In S. Africa it was minority majority rule…same in Texas for many reasons.
One glaring reason is the gerrymandering!
My district is a 3.5hr (skinny with legs like a centipede) drive!
In another poll, 60% of Texans surveyed opposed becoming an independent nation. However, 48% of Texas Republicans surveyed supported it. The reaction from outside the state was also strongly split, including those who wanted to get rid of Texas.
You're giving a *lot* of credence to a movement that is still failing to even get their nonsense on the ballot. It isn't a majority opinion. The Tribune article you linked further detailed how the R's in TxLege are shutting each other down over it.
If Tesla goes under that’s going to serious hurt them… but hey do give more.. by a small amount… this recession is going to hurt them more than CA and other blue states… Newsom is talking to other world leaders and trying to not get tariffs levies at CA and other blue states .. fuck the red states…
The fact that diseased and deceased are so close is quite the coincidence. Come to think of it, you'd think that being dead would just be called "ceased". 🤔
These efforts to steal elections, like the one in North Carolina, need to get kicked to SCOTUS where we will learn finally if Leonard Leo controls America or we have a Democracy for 340,000,000 citizens.
"Before we have any election, I wanna have time to organize voter suppression all the while whining about the other side rigging it just in case we lose."
They are probably one of the only Texas counties that does. Just like Trump, he equates fair and free elections with, don't vote for me, as not right. Fucker.
Call Republicans bluff. If elections are so compromised, let’s inspect them all, including tRump’s improbable 2024 win of all swing states like Dems should have. Screw “maintaining election integrity” and screw the high road. MAGA had already destroyed it, if anything a recount would’ve returned it.
🖕🏼abbutt, NotSee any problems in Harris county elections, except, republicans obstructing voters with not enough paper ballots, purging actual live voter from rolls, & more?
I doubt that their accusations, which they don’t have any basis to make, can stop an election. They are desperate & know that they will get their heads handed to them, again.
I lost my home during the loss of power during the Texas ice storm of 2021 The Democrats could have mercilessly hammered republicans over the head over this issue but their response was weak.
yeah, he's been trying to peddle that for a while. With all the batshit stuff Trump is doing, pretty sure Dr Evil is just hoping people will forget about the whole recession/depression thing before there's an election.
This is a part of the plan for Project 2025. Dismantle the government, destabilize the economy, and give the president unchecked power. Destroy democracy from within.
He hasn't got legs to stand on with this bs lie. He doesn't want to hold the election because, he knows Harris county has a large population of minorities. They are the people he hates.

Unimportant the 18th Congressional district is 30+% Black & 2nd Hispanic w/ 16% White. The person elected in any special election will be a Black Democrat, period
Actually “taxation without representation” refers to the entire US currently as Congress relinquishes its fiscal responsibility to the Trump administration.

Hello @aclutx.bsky.social

Maybe Harris County would also like to have a couple of senators to go along with their new rep?

Prevent a democrat's choice
Sound familiar?
they will grab, steal, corrupt anything they can, and blithely lie to facilitate it.
they now go out of their way to make outrageous, ridiculous excuses
Who didn't expect this?
Oh yes it was all those who said that voting for Hilary Clinton or Kamala Harris would be 'just as bad'.
Thanks a bunch.
Remember that?
You continue to fail your state and betray your oath of office.
We must stop Trump & Project 2025.
