Solar and wind are cheaper and can be installed rapidly. China installs more solar generating capacity per year than the global nuclear industry has installed since it started all those decades ago.

Dutton is trying to follow Trumps play book, and this scares me. He is being backed by the big mining companies specifically to reinstate coal and gas power. He has stated he will cut 36,000 jobs from public service. He is only interested in financial gain.

Keep Dutton out of office.

...and building nuclear, coal, gas at the same time. their power demands so far are insatiable. so, i'd simply go with "build nuclear and wind/solar" and just get rid of the fossils.

my reference case for nucular is france. they do it well. they do it quickly. norway the same to top up tidal.

my ongoing gripe is that the argument is always about time, overruns, and money. i don't get the problem. france turns these things on reliably and regularly. they have the 2nd lowest carbon/gWH in europe (norway cheats by having a coastline full of fjords which run all the time).

once nuclear is up and running it is a hugely powerful supply, lasts for decades, and is reliable. then there's SMRs and Tokamaks in development/pilot. it seems silly not to take advantage of all this.

OTOH, the UK quietly turned its last coal plant off recently. yay!!!
