I don’t have words for what’s happening to my friends and colleagues at NOAA right now… absolutely reckless destruction of one of the world’s premier science-driven, public-serving organizations.

A thought - when someone says 'you can't run an economy the size of Australia on renewable energy' they could be asked to back that up, given it has become a point of political debate and there are people/government agencies who have done a lot of work in the area who disagree.

Uh-oh. Big pile of lightning strikes in the Tassie WHA. Looks like there's not much rain coming with it - fires already being reported further west, including an Advice warning at Zeehan.

The Aus enviro minister was on Sunrise today. The govt has just announced it is shelving legislation to improve environmental protection. She wasn't asked a single q about this. She was asked about antisemitism (a big issue but not her area of responsibility). Pretty remarkable, if not surprising.

Peter Dutton said today about the Coalition's nuclear energy policy that "you would expect a 44 per cent reduction, or of that order, being passed through in energy bill relief". To say this isn't true and has no basis in the Frontier Economics modelling he cites is an extraordinary understatement.

Details on Australian government approving four coalmine expansions from @readfearn.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Posting this immediately after approving 4 coal mine extensions (that, according to campaigners, could lead to 850m tonnes of CO2 being emitted) is... quite a choice.

Hmm... This doesn't sound right ? "in South Australia at the moment, you’re paying up to 56 cents a kilowatt hour, in Wyoming and Tennessee, where they have a similar mix of renewables and nuclear that we’re proposing, they’re paying 18 cents." (www.peterdutton.com.au/leader-of-th...) Let's check!
