School districts encourage this with their umpteen learning goals. No time for a deep dive, real reading, and wondering, an open discussion. If we want to show off our value as teachers, we also have to work on improving our own methods and highlighting the differences with AI summaries.

Even at UCLA, people are surprised that I sometimes assign 7 full (paper!) books in a public science writing class that lasts ten weeks. But students read them and ask for more recommendations when the quarter is over.
