Over several months, my flatmate and I noticed an unopened envelope in our foyer. Eventually, we open it. Inside was an Xmas card and £100 in cash. By then, it was Easter, and to justify our actions, we bet it all on red. The drive home was silent.

My gf and I met her sister outside a shopping centre. She pointed out a small package someone rushing by had dropped a few minutes earlier. It was £55 in notes and coins. I gave each of them £20 and kept £15, thereby absolving myself of all guilt.
Why was the ride home silent? Was it because you were on your own while your flatmate was snorting cocaine off a hooker with his share of the winnings?
You let the envelope sit there for several months? Was it just the two of you, and neither one of you actually asking “Hey, what’s this dusty envelope laying here?”
£100. In the UK a foyer is the shared entrance of a block of flats (apartments). Normally with lots of junk/unwanted mail and free newspapers for weeks on end addressed to residents of the other flats.

But that's the way I like it baby,
I don't wanna live forever.
Here's £100,
put £50 on red and £50 on black, and you've nothing to be afraid of.
Merry Xmas
Love, Grandad.
