I learnt from one of my current students that Sydney isn't the capital of Australia. I've been teaching geography at that secondary school for 18 years.

Cover your ass with the proviso *currently*, like, maybe it once was, or it's still in some kind of debate internally within Aus itself. After all, the capital of England is no longer Chelmsford but it was in the year AD 123.
I wouldn’t worry too much. It’s an underwhelming city to say the least - all roundabouts and government buildings. It’s one of the few places you can legally buy fireworks though, so you know, swings and roundabouts.

Also odd that there isn’t a train service between Sydney and the, er, capital.
1) Other countries have as their capital city one that has a smaller population than their most populous city e.g. USA, so not odd at all.
2) there is a train between Sydney and Canberra, so also not odd.
