We get all the cheese for our birthday cheeseboard from Grate in Newcastle, they're a fabulous queer friendly independent cheesemongers who really knows their business and you should go if you're anywhere near there and want some really good cheese.

We go in and she's like "HI GUYS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" And then we put together a cheeseboard over the course of about 15 mins to half an hour as we try her different recommendations because hoo boy does she know her stuff.

Once I tried this brie and was like "I like this but it's too delicate. What the cheeseboard needs is a version of this that would assault me in a dark alleyway" and she went "I know exactly what you mean. You want the washed rind version." And she was RIGHT. That was EXACTLY what I was looking for.

I got a cheese advent calendar once and rather than deride the concept I ate all the cheese. I discovered Red Leicester early on, for the first time, and immediately raided the rest of the days for more. Recommended!

We considered cake but I'm not massively into sugar and they're gluten free so... Cheese. The answer is cheese. We get some bread for me, gluten free crackers for them, and go to TOWN.
