My recent Old Man Thing is that each day I end my dinner by treating myself to the sensory pleasure of very slowly and deliberately eating a single piece of very dark chocolate.

Try an Aperol Shakerado sometime. Literally just dry shake 2oz of Aperol and then pour into a coup. The Aperol has just enough oil to hold the tiniest bit of aeration and it’s lovely.
We live in a world where "little treats" are so easy to come across that we wolf them down in great quantities without thinking, desperate to feel... Something... In these times of dread.
It is an act of rebellion to take time on a small deliberate pleasure instead of a whirlwind of immediate ones.
I am not saying that denying oneself pleasure is a moral good, but I am saying that trying to forego the desperate pursuit of hollow pleasure that characterises our time and instead indulging oneself, genuinely, deliberately, in a way that feels special, is a good thing for our brains and our souls.
I have been getting an embarrassing amount of joy from having just had a functional extractor fan fitted after twelve years of cooking without one. It is wonderful!
*me who eats chocolate in large chunks, desperately chomping them like I've not ate in weeks, and finishing off 2 share bars within the space of 5 minutes while barely registering the taste, like a Golden Retriever on a food time limit* ~ "I can't relate to this at all"
40 years ago I joined my folks for a week's vacation in the Canary Islands, where every night, 22 year old me had Tia Maria before supper while my dad had a beer. I'm thinking this may be a good time to pick up that habit again. (Thanks for prompting the memory)
Can confirm, I'm in my late 50s and do this. A single square of good quality dark chocolate. It seems to signal to my body that eating has now ended of the night.
This is a legit way to end every meal. I savor every bite of Royce Chocolates when I'm lucky enough to have a box on hand -- the most delectable and luxurious chocolate I've ever tasted!

Yours is more cute, I suppose.
Have 1 of these on occasion. It's only one. Go big
..... a bar comes in one piece so that counts the same yeah?
Nah, you’ve been sadly misadvised. Who’s your insider spy?
Hi, by the way I am dark chocolate 😎
