It's bleak and only getting bleaker. We are currently trying to buy so we can get out of the rent trap and our kids can experience having a garden, but already looking like we are well priced out of anything slightly suitable

Wages are down (bc of competition),90% private industry pulled their benefits so even on a "good wage" its down to nothing and then you have to pay, at best 1600/month to rent and 500 on electricity, then whatever extra needed to show your landlords you "take care" of "their" property. Fuckin sucks

Like we have a garden, it's a blessing and a cruse in many ways. We've spent 1000s after 5 years just maintaining their trees, bushes and ivy. We pay to keep everything pretty so when they retire from their early retirement from Spain they want a nice garden to come home to. 😵‍💫

I'm about to turn 37.

I finally moved out in summer 2019.

By spring '21 I was back.

Then 8 months in Galway.

Back since 22.

Rent is just astronomical, we're a 3 generations, full house.

And as pentioners my folks now need the rent income etc to aid in raising a grandchild (my nephew)

The most important thing is that we continue our proud tradition of not spending our annual housing budget no matter what, because if we continue to pretend it's not a problem, then it'll stop being a problem. That's just how things work in the real world.
