A lot of games only exist because of someone's spouse supporting them, rich parents, lucky stock breaks or other independent wealth. Which is great for them but leaves a lot of people, their experiences and stories out in the cold.

Excellent piece by @bryantfrancis.me but I have one amendment to make to a suggestion from the quoted source. We really need to start attributing success to its actual underpinnings, rather than romanticizing what we want it to mean.

But without gaming investment that actually takes risks, there are some "next Balaltros" out there that are never going to get made because the talented devs can't afford to quit their day job.
