I can't speak for rugby, but one thing I've read about US football is that "better" gear makes players more inclined to hit harder. It's a false sense of security.

The sad thing is, as long as some kids need to get a sports scholarship in order to go to school, the more people will argue we NEED to let kids keep playing dangerous sports. Remember how parents argued schools shouldn’t be remote bc kids needed to get sports scholarships during the shutdowns?

Sports scholarships are going to start being less common in a few years. The collegiate olympic sports model is facing an existential crisis due to the funding model being turned on its ear.

Some COVID vaccine shots gave you COVID. Some did nothing and some made teenagers drop dead.

They claimed teen athlete deaths "spiked" but they really just returned to pre-pandemic levels after youth sports started back up.

Now there's a real uptick.

My beef with this stuff is I don't want my tax dollars getting spent on sports. Every dollar that goes to the football team is a dollar that could be spent towards teachers, school supplies, books, computers, lunches.

It's a waste of money in my book.

if the football is self sustaining I don't care. I don't even hate it because its sports or anything after school programs help a lot of kids, but they should not come at the cost of everyone elses education, yeah redo the field when the computer lab still has a Win 3.1 Tandy with a TURBO button

No both the money it could use to self-sustain itself and the tax money keeps getting put back into it. My point is at that point it should either be tax money or merch money going into it while the other is used for something else. But no that's not what they do.
