.....seems to be covered with the debris of a meal, which were usually swept away, e. g. bones, poultry claws, seashells, fruit stones, grape-stalks.

On display at the National Archaeological Museum of Aquileia.

Must have been a nightmare to clean up after a meal, sweeping all over in poor light to make quite sure you'd swept up all the real debris and not missed the odd mousehead or fishtail.
