it's such a bastard to turn off AI features because we're still in the 'artificially inflating the value' part of the tech bullshit hype cycle & somewhere a man in a suit has to say "we already have x million users!" to another guy in a suit

Adobe fucking Acrobat pushing AI pop ups anytime I opened a PDF was the moment my attitude to the generative AI shareholder bubble went from weary indifference to aggressive dislike. They're currently burning the planet to inflate the bubble on an entirely undercooked end-user product
Do you think it'll stop or will it keep going on like VR headsets? It's been what 10 years? since they became available to the average consumer and they're still trying to say how game changing they'll be and everyone is gonna have one on 24/7
It's hard to say.
VR's a hard comparison as it's not just being pushed by money. There's a really dedicated fandom for the technology who are experiencing great things with it.
It's not like EnnEffTees where the entire thing is a grift.
Rewatching some Dan Olson videos and when you see it back to back it's staggering that people keep falling for these visions of tech utopia that are entirely fake, horrible as far as they do exist and only serve to pump a stock. People also keep falling for it at regular one year intervals.
We're encouraged to believe emerging tech will lead to utopian outcomes, in a system which permits proprietary ownership of the tech by a pathologically greedy minority. One that uses every new technology to more efficiently burn through real-world wealth to inflate short-term profit margins
and at least the others had some sort of appeal to them. crypto would make you rich, the metaverse would give you new ways to socialise and present yourself, NFTs gave you exclusivity (all bullshit ofc but you get my point); the most major thing ive seen AI used for is helping ppl cheat on homework
It's been a while since I did it, but I think I just reported one of the AI's messages (hold your finger down until the prompt pops up) and then the whole thing was just gone
I was just making a playlist of music on Youtube and when I was inputting the title I swear it offered to help me write it. It's a playlist title I don't need AI help with that.
The title was "Saddest Music." I can write that myself, Google.
