Oh yikes I get this; maybe quietly regift them to a prison library (the ones I donate to are wild about Grisham novels, they’re very popular!) OTOH now I want a mystery series about butchers, so thanks for that 😏

Oh now that’s a great idea!- we are in the process of a huge downsizing and have sooo many books that we sadly cannot take with us ☹️How do we go about donating to a prison ? (I’m clueless!!)
I have long-standing relationships with several through various areas of work/life, so I generally do it through existing contacts and relationships. There are specific charities that collect and distribute books, or contact your preferred prison directly and ask if it’s something they facilitate.
Can I ask how you donate directly to specific prison libraries? Last time I had a clear out and enquired, there were complicated rules and the easiest option seemed to be via a registered charity. But then you’d have no idea which prisons they were going to? Wondering if there’s now an easier way!
I’ve worked with several (both in food and addiction recovery) and yes the initial security clearance can be quite a hurdle if you don’t already have an established relationship. Some facilitate individual donations, some understandably wary. The charity distribution is a great thing; I do that too.
