Really hated The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I know some love it, but it's just too depressing and repetitive for my tastes. Would have DNFed after a few chapters, but it was a class assignment!

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but The Stormlight Archives are kind of boring to me. I didn't care about any characters at all. I am a fan of most of Sanderson's other series though.

That would be hard to say, but one under the James Patterson brand. I don't think he wrote it. Not only unenjoyable but painfully formulaic and awkward, full of contemporary cultural references and chapters that stopped and restarted in the middle of a scene.

Didn't finish it, not even close.

It started off with some kinda government agent on a stakeout being killed and then mutilated and left to be found because I guess the author thinks that's what gangs do, to . . . I dunno, teach cops a lesson, rather than immediately have them coming in hot and ready to murder everyone?

Then we got some kind of high-tech CEO interviewing some fresh-out-of-school rando and super impressed, because obviously unless we met the evil CEO up-front in this ridiculous situation, how would we ever know he was the evil techbro?

Finally we had a police officer going to the morgue and chatting with an "overly jolly morgue attendant" stereotype that the author wasn't clever enough to make funny, with exposition about every aspect of the cop's background via "and she wore [x], which reminded her of [y]."

I practically screamed at the book, "WHAT?! DOES THIS WOMAN HAVE MEMENTO DISEASE, IS THAT WHY SHE WEARS THINGS TO REMIND HER OF HER ENTIRE FREAKIN' LIFE?!" I'll read terrible books for fun. I read Dan Brown, for god's sake, but that was too much. I stopped reading at that point.

I enjoyed Freida McFadden but mainly because she was my entry to thrillers and I feel like that's the purpose she serves. She won't appeal to established thriller readers. She's just the gateway. And from her I did find better thriller authors.

Paradise Lost. I had to read it in undergrad and not only did the misogyny infuriate me, I had my lecturer’s voice reading it in my head, and he always sounded like he was in a very bad Shakespearean play… 0/10 DNR.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of a fantasy that’s disappointed. Good Girls Guide to Murder though. Booktok lied to me. It’s juvenile and bland.
