I've been thinking a lot about comics lately and the craft and calling of making them. So I wrote myself a comics manifesto. Please comment, share, steal, or disregard.

It's largely estimated that you need to make several HUNDRED pages before your comic will START making money. A lot of people won't read a comic that's too few pages, and if they do, they forget about it easily.
But the more you make, the more will see it, the more will want to see it more!!
Yeah honestly itβs about doing what you feel is the best version of your art. The viewer/reader can feel your heart and soul in the work you have done.
I was just yesterday composing a similar manifesto. My version of point 1 is "you are the only guaranteed audience for the comic, so make a comic you like" and point 4 is "if someone else enjoys your comic, you probably won't ever know."
I'm at https://www.donnabarr.com The rules are: make comics from love. You'll find your crazy people. A page a day is perfect - any more produces sht. Listen to music while penicilling, podcasts while inking. Train your readers to YOUR schedule. Get a Patreon account (Never use the Apple App). #comics
I always tell my students who are interested in making comics - you have to love it beyond belief, it has to be a part of you, because you will most likely never be rewarded financially for the amount of work you put into it.
Very true, and good way to look at it imo! I personally don't find the hours I spend on each page THAT extreme, though tbf I'm a hobbyist who is not producing professional quality work lol

2025 is my year of as many mini comics as I can make.
I'm up to 8 already...
