That was my main impression as a passenger. Like I was in some bubble that was not a part of the outside world.

And just pride of a great engineering achievement. I remember obsessively reading news of it (“A380 Navigator” archived: https://web.archive.org/web/20080913214258/http://events.airbus.com/A380/Default2.aspx)

I flew in the first Airbus model A300 in 1973 & it was like flying a bunch of parts in formation. Everything rattled. Felt like the aircraft was falling apart. They’ve come a long way.
