Does anyone here think that 50 is too old to become a student again? I'm starting a BA(Hons) degree in English Literature & Creative Writing with the #OpenUniversity next month and for Six Years.

Does your heart tell you this is something you want?
If so, then no, not too old.

Funny you should say that. I've had to give up work (Well self-employed work) to become a full-time carer for my lovely wife so studying at home makes sense to me.
I got my degree 40 years ago with the OU when I was on maternity leave and when I worked part time. A first, which I wouldn't have got at 21! And now I study at the City Literary institute on day a week - I'm addicted. I wish you and your wife everything that's good.
Do you want to do it and have you got the drive to do the work? Then you’re just the right age! The number is irrelevant, it’s the ‘hunger’ that’s the deciding factor! Fill your boots and have fun! 🤩
Studying a Master's in Library Science at 38-40 was a challenge because I had been teaching English for twelve years, and it was hard to switch roles. But I don't think anyone is too old to learn, ever.
Absolutely not! You grab that opportunity and run with it! Keep us in the loop with how it goes. All the very best of wishes. (I opened Tell Tales at fifty-five)
Personally I as a middle aged man hope I’m finally mature enough to write my bachelor thesis in life science. (Kind of want to write one in biochemistry and one in molecular biology.)
No. I used to work with mature students far older than that. Remember George Eliot: 'It is never too late to become what you might have been'. I may have got that slightly wrong, but you get the idea. Go for it. 🙂
It absolutely isn’t. In the past it was only considered old for a second act because lives were generally shorter. Nowadays you might only be at the 50% mark.
not at all. One of my first students when I started teaching journalism was 70 and he contributed (and, I hope, gained from) an awful lot to the course.
