LibreOffice is working great for me so far (cancelled MS Word when they jacked up the price behind my back and added AI spyware) The interface is pretty much Word circa 2010 or thereabouts, so we are good to go. LibreOffice is free/pay what you want from a German nonprofit. - ThreadSky

It's a little clunky at first but a few simple changes in the settings and you'll be off to the races (the spacing is close by default, and I prefer larger line spacing, easy peasy)

I swapped too, as Google word processors had a data storage paywall, and I can't save items to my computer, and Google Drive is balls.
Plus, Linux is more accepting of Libre Office anyway.

It's great! I am using it for years now and wrote ... dunno millions of characters on it
The other parts are also great, although Calculator can sometimes be like Excel a bit of black magic 😅

Recently switched to it myself, after Openoffice annoyed me one too many times, and fully concur. It's really good. Annoyed at myself for not switching sooner, as it seems to be actively improving my creative output. The tools really do matter.

To be exact, it's not a German nonprofit. In fact, it is a worldwide community-driven project, with corporate and individual contributors from all over the world. True, there's a legal entity, registered in Berlin, Germany - but this does not mean the product or project is German or "from Germany".
