Yeah, I had no idea Window Maker had anything to do with emulating NeXT's environment until years into using it.

Spent a lot of time customizing the menu too, to add keyboard shortcuts for launching apps.
Workspaces (alt+1 Terminal, alt+2 Web, alt+3 Programming, etc) was the killer feature for me and why switching to i3 was an easy move.
And even less important now that most stuff that isn't programming is just in a web browser, which has been a godsend for us Linux users (in most ways).
