I’ve heard from multiple people the pacing was off. Like too much being rushed into an already too long film but also slower and teetering on boring. I’m bracing myself!
Yes, imo there was at least an hour of just weird facial expression close ups, and another hour of a mix of creative but way overly dark ~vibey~ shots, and maybe 15 minutes of plot.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, including the use of natural and candle light. It was dark for sure, but I never had any issue seeing what was going on. One of my favorite films of the year.
And your opinion is 100% valid, just to be clear. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about it being too dark to follow for a lot of people. The fact I had zero issues suggests to me that the overly dark presentations was a problem on the individual projectionists.
Horny and sexy are not the same thing and I'm concerned that so many people in my life seem to think they are! It was trying so hard to be horny but didn't have an ounce of sexy.
Me too! The Witch more than The Lighthouse, though. I agree that the lighting was awful, and they probably could have cut an hour of close ups of people making weird faces.
I might be the only person who liked the infamous dark episode of Game of Thrones, but even this was too dark for me. A lot of the time, a good quarter to third of the screen was crushed blacks 😫 I've seen better looking stills online making me think maybe the projection was bad, tho.
I like The Witch quite a bit! I thought The Lighthouse was good, but not for me. I'm neutral on Dracula. I think after this I've decided that Eggers just isn't for me.
