When I jump from working on the Beano to other comics I really miss being able to just write what is going on in the panel as an SFX.

Notable how many of my go-to gags are transposed directly from the comics of my youth. Here's an old classic I trot out on occasion, "very literal SFX", in its original form via the Biffo feed.

Also I think it was Garth Ennis who once blew up a bathroom with the SFX “BA-THROOM!” so it’s all good
When I write for 2000 AD/Megazine I tend to keep the SFX to a minimum as the house style seems to be to use fewer SFXs. Not none, but I feel fewer than other comics.
