Yeah, but don't be too hard on yourself over it. Being able to admit that now demonstrates way more commitment to ethical growth and accountability than most people ever aspire to
It's hard to apologize when people are coming at you so hard. I personally feel really resistant to it and dig in when a response is especially foul. It happens, even when only so many eyes are on you.
It's fine Natalie, you trusted this person enough to have them on your video and they turned out to be a bad person. That's a human mistake. You didn't know. I've heard it was a cameo and (if correct), that's not enough to platform their ideas or make it an entry point (in my opinion).
I will say, it's hard to apologize when very many people are upset at you, especially when you're processing your own complex feelings. People forget that past the good crits come torrents of crud on every outlet.
I think this place is different, which is very great.
imo people always gave you too much shit for this stuff, those canceling you didn't seem to understand your talent for both seriously engaging with biggoted ideas *and* making them feel unacceptable to hold at the same time. almost nobody was ever pushed further right by a Contra video
less than great if your preferred strategy is rallying the oppressed to advocate for themselves, but as far as deradicalization goes your methods avoided all the worst tropes of Let's Have A Rational [eternal] Debate centrism
You didn’t have all the information at the time and weren’t equipped to handle a tsunami of hate and vitriol. It happens. Acknowledging it is a good thing 😊
