El Tianté was a monster on the scene in Boston. There wasn't a kid pitching-- be it in the little leagues or backyard wiffle ball-- who didn't mimic Tiant's motion. We used to call it the "hessi"- hesitation pitch. And when he got a hit in the playoffs, the city went nuts.
I honestly think they should form a separate Negro Leagues committee with the voting panel consisting entirely of historians. No offense to those on this year’s panel, but I don’t know how many of them can make reasonable judgments on either Donaldson or Harris.
I share your disappointment. Happy for Allen's family and the Cobra though. He'll go in as a Pirate of course, but I remember his time on the A's. Congratulations.
Glad Dick Allen finally gets his due. Cobra is okay, too. They need to do separate ballots for the NNL players/managers so they don’t get overlooked on tough ballots like this one.
Yay Dick Allen! Uh, Dave Parker, sure, I guess, you and Harold Baines can go have fun with the statues of Tommy McCarthy and Ross Youngs and Travis Jackson and all of Frankie Frisch's other friends.
LOL, no. Parker had a 5 year stretch that could have been 5 years of a deserving Hall of Famer's career, but he had almost no value at any time outside of that. You know who I genuinely, honestly believe deserves to be in the Hall of Fame more than Dave Parker? To be clear, still not deserving.
To follow up: Gardner made one All-Star game and won a Gold Glove. He never was particularly close to being an MVP caliber player, and he didn't even reach 1,500 hits
I'm sorry: this is a disservice to Dave Parker, who as a superb player. I would have preferred others but I'm glad for him
The election of Parker pretty well guarantees Andruw Jones gets in someday.
Parker (41.1 fWAR)
10,184 PA, 339 HR, 154 SB, .810 OPS
Jones (67 fWAR)
8,664 PA, 434 HR, 152 SB, .823 OPS and much, much better D…

Parker no. A great but short peak followed by getting fat, followed by a mild comeback. This bodes well for his one-time teammate Al Oliver.
The rest — Ken Boyer, John Donaldson, Steve Garvey, Vic Harris, Luis Tiant
— each received less than 5 votes
Disappointed neither of the Negro Leagues/Black baseball candidates (Donaldson and Harris) made it
Signed,
White Sox Fan that saw him at his best

He only played one year as a Dodger.
If advanced stats were around in their day, their plaques would be collecting dust in Cooperstown!!
I have fam with the same condition he’s saddled with. I’m very pleased he gets to enjoy this.
But…outpointing even Allen? Something aligned, and I think it was “heart over head.”
