I don't know how the baseball HOF works. But a couple of years ago, one of the voters on Football's HOF said there was at least one voter who refused to make a vote unanimous on some stupid "principle" no one perfect 🙄 😉

7 times he allowed a run, 7 times he didn't. He got 3 saves, 1 hold, 1 blown save (but the win), & 1 loss in the post-season. The runs he allowed mostly came in blowouts when they were trying to get him work. For comparison, Rivera blew a game 7 WS save (biggest possible), a total of 5 blown saves.

Not going to spend any time equating any part of Billy Wagner with Mariano Rivera, the guy who had a 0.70 ERA in 141 IP in the playoffs.

Just making the point about blown saves (the #1 thing relievers must avoid). Wagner when given a lead held it all but once in the playoffs and he got a win that time. He NEVER cost his team a victory despite that ugly ERA. Rivera did cost his team in a game 7 of the WS - the most costly blown save.

Yes. Wouldn't want to evaluate closers on their biggest moments, when it counts the most.

Closers are small sample size, by definition. Either it all counts, or it doesn't.
