I think we see it from the standpoint of the elite though, the ones pushing the excitement. Do you think peasants felt that too? #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts

The peasants throughout history never had access to books, learning. So it's hard to know if they realized the monumentality of the time. But they could see the churches, the statues & hear those speaking in the square. Or standing in the pit at the theater. #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
But did it speak to them that changes were happening they would benefit from? Or did they see it as just the rich doing their thing, but slightly differently? #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
Good point. I doubt "trickle down" worked any more effectively then than it does now. But they may have picked up some crumbs.

It’s a weird topic. Like we think of these times as so enlightened, and they were in comparison. But were they good for the poor still? #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
Maybe, there were likely more opportunities that came from growth in architecture and buildings even if it was hard manual labor. Education and medical advances probably trickled down but still stayed at an elite level so yeah, the peasants probably saw some minor benefits but not much.
I'm sure most of it was not appreciated at the time. If I was a peasant, I would have been one of the people saying that's great that you spent all this money to paint a wall in church or put a statue in the square but we're all starving out here.
But if basic needs were met (and I’m not sure if they were in Florence), public art would be nice rather than just having it in some rich guy’s house #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
