I used to be dead against scores for all reasons Simon Woolf offered. I am much more ambivalent and less ready to be all or nothing.

That's fair comment. I shouldn't be black and white. I suppose I just dislike the abjuration of responsibility of picking the highest score without bothering to engage more. But, as we've said a lot, I'm not remotely typical - I have time and a desire to connect.

Yes. I have wine drinking neighbours. Scores would change their life tbh. Atm they simply take ‚deals’. And I aleays take my own wine when visiting :)

It's about effects for a terribly large number of people. Cheap wine is an inoffensive(!) medium for ingesting alcohol and, apart from the youth of today, who doesn't like a drink? I prefer cocktails and beer if I just want to get pissed, but who are we to criticise people who like to cheap wine?

I find it a very nebulous crutch. I'd rather have a story. I've worked in bookshops and wineshops, I made sure I knew my charges well. I think that's a duty of someone trying to take your cash for any item.

But you are right to say I'm no example.

We agree. I’d rather have a compenent merchant telling me abt wine. But they’re latgely unavailable. So unless you want to do a quick read from Wines of Italy, you’re left with the nebulous crutch. What’s crucial is that one understands it’s nebulous and not an objective assessment.
