Proposal: When discussing automation, replace the notional always-on, maintenance-free robot helper you're imagining with the average real-world printer you've encountered.
The more expensive and complex the printer, the more potential issues and "having a printer guy".
A much better baseline.

They just Work.
There are people with robotic augmentation (eyes, limbs etc) where due to privatisation the companies that service and provide these are no longer around. 1/2
The only thing so far that's "made it" is new thrusters, Do infact look and sound like ones out of starwars/startrek and are in fact More simple mechanical wise 😂
Nothing has made me less optimistic about the robot future than this post.
Anyone still using paper today is a moron, because it's all automated. And everyone dealing with that paper is unemployed.
They could use it to create a better society, they choose to use it to fire their golden geese. I will not be sad when they fall on their faces
As an intelligent person, I can do whatever ChatGPT can do better. I prefer more intelligent people.
Oh my goodness, the number of people who bring one back because "I couldn't figure it out."
yet apparently we expect these same peoples entire kitchen to be automated without catching fire? 🙃
It’s my toaster, isn’t it? You’re looking at my toaster.
Even in the future nothing works!
As soon as it's indispensible, it's leverage. The physical instantiation of a business model.
Medical devices might be defended, but lots of useful assist tech is gray market "does not treat" stuff.
Don't ask me who fixes it.
The question is answered in Strata.
They keep breaking different robots to see what turns up next to repair them.

Also like a printer.

Brother robots have proven to be almost completely trouble free.
use a roomba and let us know how much it does by itself.
And get stuck there. Just micro-roaming around in a square, on a 4’sq leg under the tabletop, at a 40° angle, zero intention of coming down ever.
Every single day.
Works great, doesn't have to "map" anything, almost never gets stuck.
"Bob"'s only weakness is a penchant for my penguin-shaped bathroom mat.
