Does anyone use a map app other than Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps? In the USA, I find that everything else is unusably bad. My use cases are primarily driving and walking.

+ 1 for organicmaps. At least for bike paths Openstreetmap (which it uses) is the best quality source here in Finland. OSM is generally very good in European urban regions.
Right, it's the only one I use and it works like a charme.
Benefits: great offline maps, no big tech companies, no tracking, no data grabbing, no ads, open source.
Openstreetmap also fairly reliably has stuff like post boxes and public toilets, which is great when traveling. Google Maps for instance does not have post boxes at all.
Yeah, that doesn’t exist on a comparable level in Openstreetmap data (or any non-commercial dataset, afaik). But it is a great complement, the offline functionality is also more practical and good on travels.
Interesting, I haven't paid attention to that yet. I'll do it next time I'm in a bigger city.
My main focus is not to be chased or tracked by a big tech company. I think it's my personal business where I go, how long it takes me and how long I'm there.
I used to, if there was no other alternative you would learn that a paper map works, it's just very cumbersome and sometimes you had to pull over to use it.
To be honest the alternatives are really bad especially in USA.
OpenStreetMap data is the closest, which is a database not a maps app. You can see everything from OpenStreetMap in Organic Maps and use that day to day. I recommend trying to use it as much as you can and registering to edit OSM.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/ exists but it's only better if /you/ make it better
