You’re right, we’re a generous nation let down by a failing system.
The poor, knowing how tough it is, tend to give the most proportionally.
Time we taxed the richest so that know one gets to know how tough it is.

Not really. If you compare with the Nordic countries then that might be the case but it's still better than almost all other countries.

I guess it’s a double edged sword though Tom. Maybe more are giving to charity since there is a greater need for charity to fill gaps that the state perhaps used to fill? Eg some countries have lass charitable giving because there may be less need?

I do donate. I would actually prefer to pay for many currently charitable services through a progressive taxation system. Why are hospices and air ambulances not paid for through the NHS budget, for example? And cancer research. And domestic violence shelters and victim support via the Home Office.
