This is also a side effect of the demonization of the “politician” which largely occurred because wealthy people always look to tear down any threat to their power.

So anyone effective becomes an untrustworthy monster, if there’s no evidence they make it up.

So then we have a few generations where ambitious people with no sense of public service go into politics purely to gain for themselves.

And all they know is “less money = bad” so even if they didn’t all intend to, they have dismantled the world around us.

People work to generate wealth for themselves and their communities, that wealth needs to be invested and we can best do that via government because the cost of that spending is lower.

What we need to do is stop thinking in four year increments between elections and more generationally.

We need to make the “politician” a respected position and push for the best of us to run for office.

That starts by fixing the discourse, making it SAFE for ANYONE to run.

I know some AMAZING politicians, some of the best ones are the ones we never talk about. Start with them, build a new generation of a wide array of informed and passionate people to run for office at all levels.

YOU can be a part of that, join a local volunteer board, something quiet to gain experience. This goes 10x if you don’t look like me. Start small and think long term, it’ll leave the craven ambitious folks in the dust.
