I'm sorry to hear this Fatima. I don't have the words to express my anger and empathy. My father is a victim of the Guatemalan Civil War and his father was forced into exile because, yknow, the coup, for 7 years, and learning about that was my joker origin story as well.

Wagatwe I worked for a global human rights organization for the time and tried to pursue answers about their killings and the US military treated us beneath contempt, basically accusing us of lying and smearing my family as terrorists.

In fairness it was better than them trying to pay us off, which is what they did frequently when they couldn’t get away with lying about who they killed. Going rate for one dead innocent Afghan was about $10,000.

There were military commanders who took great pride in organizing and leading night raids and I was not among them. Led a lot of patrols and took a lot of contact, but it was overwhelmingly in mountainous or rural terrain. Tried to keep the fighting away from villages for very obvious reasons

I remember a school rally when I attended us high school that had some sort of "honoring the troops" theme, and I remember one of the slides was of soldiers kicking in a door of an earthen Iraqi/Afghan house and how weird that that was what they'd show as an image

I have no words. This is why I don’t want to do any work with companies contracted with the US military. It’s disgusting that my country has decided that millions of deaths is the acceptable answer to thousands. Your family did not deserve this.
