The thing is, the military is also extensively using diesel powered cars and planes. And no shot a HMMWV (the smallest of us military road vehicles) is lower emissions than an F150.

Yup. If we go only by publicly available metrics it's the biggest polluter on earth, with greater carbon emissions than a few dozen countries. And publicly available metrics are a massive undercount.
