In fact there's clear evidence it was written IN the war:

'Bang-bang-bang till my feet do the same' - describes running for cover in Blitz
'Something's bugging me, something ain't right' - refers to Nazis intercepting messages
'Come on baby, let's not fight' - direct quote, Chamberlain to Hitler
