I could understand “Solo Leveling has a large casual audience that doesn’t attend anime cons” except for the part where they still apparently are dedicated enough to pay a monthly fee to watch anime and vote in a popularity poll, possibly repeated times across multiple days. I assume it's like the Cameron Avatar movies- lot of people are *really* into it (always saw em in the theme park), but a lot for hardcore nerds aren't. Tons of people are buying those books & watching the show. But not necessarily the crowd cosplaying or doing panels at cons.

I think there is a difference between those who engage in cons and those who watch anime. When on go onto Instagram reels the amount of cosplayers (of the OF variety) cosplaying Solo is high. And I think for most of them they wouldn't be cosplaying those characters if there wasn't an audience.

You know for a fact that I am THE Isekai guy and I still have not got around to watching Solo Leveling. Maybe it's good, maybe it's not, either way the level of hype around the series has made me go out of my way to avoid engaging with it.

That's my guess, too. Anytime I mentioned Solo Leveling at my panels (there's a celebrity cameo in season 2) it got a big cheer. I think it is a fun series, albeit basic. But the character designs and costumes. I got three letters: M-I-D.
