Scorponok might as well have been killed off screen. He and Terrosaur were just not as interesting in trying to fill G1 roles. (Loyal lieutenant and flying usurper, respectively)

Ironically, Waspinator getting blown up so much led to him becoming so popular that Terrorsaur got the axe instead of him (as if to prove your point, Scorponok was always planned for the chopping block).

Inferno made the Loyal Lt. thing more interesting with his "For Queen and Colony" ant mindset. Maybe they should have played more into using the beast forms for inspiration for their roles. But I don't know what role a scorpion would equate to.
