I read Clarissa in grad school, and it was such a bonding experience for the people in the class that every now and then, someone I haven’t heard from in 5 years will tag me in a post and everyone else who was in the class and we’ll weep and hold each other digitally and then go back to our lives.
I’m still mad at Proust for taking up 6mos of my life. I can’t do the super-long novel anymore. Long novels are fine. Over 40 hours on audiobook is pushing my limits.
I listened to the LOTR audiobooks over the summer and not one of those babies was over 20 hours. When I see anything longer than that I'm like "oh you think you deserve more of my time than Tolkien?"
I remember reading this in the 90s. The first 500 pages are kind of slow but it picks up in the second 500 pages and by the last 500 pages I couldn’t put it down.
