Quite good: cook, reader, procrastinator. Decent: mom, writer, teacher. Terribly bad: athlete, winker, cat trainer. Reposts are jokes I wish I'd made first. Stephanieinsleyhershinow.com

@dhersh.bsky.social is reading Clarissa for the first time (!) and keeps stopping to read it out loud to me. #clarissa2025

Word of the day is ‘catch-fart’ (17th century: an obsequious individual who will always follow the political wind.

BOURDAIN: so ive had joints of mutton everywhere. exeter, wroexeter, berwick. Ive never seen a joint of mutton prepared like this MEDIEVAL SPIT-BOY: we roaste thee meat under a pafte which keeps the juices, and renders the meat moft tendere BOURDAIN: *chuckling* wow

Looking at Woolf’s notes from reading Clarissa. #clarissa2025

This is fantastic AND let’s give lots of that vacant office space to CUNY.

You’re telling me this life crisis is mid?

More delightful #MLA25 author appearances: @kathylubey.bsky.social with her book What Pornography Knows #MLA2025

What is it I plan to do with my one wild and precious life? Read Clarissa again. ✉️

If you forgot to start reading Clarissa (😂), there will be plenty of time to catch up. But don’t skip Richardson’s preface. He changed it a lot across the editions but all versions are keen to manage reader expectations from the drop. He wants to control our reading of the characters and lessons.

Time to start reading #clarissa! ✉️ 📖

In two hours!

Join me and @brandyjensen.bsky.social as we talk about whether classic books should be dumbed down so that people can read them. (And @sandtclassics.bsky.social The Country of the Pointed Firs.) Take an MLA break. This Thursday, 6pm, Octavia Books, NO, LA. www.unnamedpress.com/events/point...

I've been wanting to read Clarissa so now seems as good a time as any....
