Quite good: cook, reader, procrastinator. Decent: mom, writer, teacher. Terribly bad: athlete, winker, cat trainer. Reposts are jokes I wish I'd made first.

lol apparently neighborhood urban public is eliminating the need for this! Otherwise Iâd start one up myself.

They are so excited! And not too happy with the more informed people in the comments. But itâs very sweet!

Yay! And yes, poor Clarissa who is the subject of everyoneâs nosiness when she just wants to disappear. (Darker, in her response, her wish that sheâd been âtaken in her last fever.â)

Please do! We havenât worked out logistics yet, but someone set up a vertical here, and you can follow along. Itâs a rather slow start, so plenty of time to ease into things.

Also the jokes and the bitchiness. Iâm doing the audiobook this time, and the Clarissa actress doing Arabellaâs voice cracked me up. (I listened ahead! I canât help myself!)

Youâll be fine! The early letters come slowly. Around March/April, youâll miss it. đ

But that opening! How can you read just the first letter? Already it might be hard to wait to read in real time. Donât you want to know why Clarissaâs dick of a brother got stabbed? Anna sure does, and she has to wait for the post. Early readers were luckier. They got the first two volumes at once.

Note that we start with Anna, not Clarissa. For many readers, Annaâs the more compelling character, at least at first. Sheâs vivacious and imperfect. Itâs Anna who will influence, eg, Elizabeth Bennet. Clarissa the paragon will prove to be a much more challenging figure in literary history.

Hence the in medias res beginning (âI heard your boyfriend stabbed your brother and your parlorâs knee-deep in blood?â) and the kind of silly device of Annaâs compilation of testimony to share with neighbors (âCan you send your grandpaâs will for reasons?â).

BUT, you might ask, why do âparents shouldnât over-control their kidsâ marriagesâ and âdonât marry an assholeâ take nine volumes and 1800+ pages? Well, because R is *at least* as interested in this whole aesthetic project of intense immersion and immediacy, how to plunge a reader into a story.

Please do! Weâre still working out logistics, in part based on how many are interested.
