More elephants:
Robert Reich reports that USA failed to become a just sustainable society because trickle-down economics and market fundamentalisms trumped empathic care of people and nature.
Australia tends to follow USA.
Both countries not living within ecological ceilings and with social floors.
a pretty good list of debates murdoch is just waiting for someone to raise so he can distort them for his own political ends ...and of course ...profit.
On the money again. Just need someone, a maverick mind, to break away and make a bold decision no matter the cost because it's the right think to do. No backbone. Shivers all looking for a spine! #auspol #election25
I have never been so disinterested in an election campaign as I have been with this one. As you point out neither of the major parties wants to talk seriously about major issues and any big issue they do talk about they don't talk about viable policies and solutions.
If only those who write for our MSM were as brave as their cartoonists, especially Cathy Wilcox. Writers aren't blind, they see these issues too but so many just platform and repeat the issues the owners of and advertisers on their platforms want to push to prominence.
It's hard being a politician on Gaza. Pick the right side or the wrong side, some voters will be on the other side. Argue with an intensity, you'll be insuffiently or too intense.
Overall, you'll lose more voters than you gain. Don't mention the war.
And IMO that’s the problem with people seeing politicians as leaders. They’re more mediators / negotiators. They try to find the middle ground of most popular thinking.
With skewed media and uneducated populations, that means genocide and a course to extinction can happen (unthinkably)
Clearly none of the focus groups have ever had a cartoonist, especially not your good self. Thank you once again for expressing what those in ours polity and media want to deny.
I’ve been surveyed weekly by a mob who must have identified me as a swinging voter in my area. Questions show it must be Lib funded survey (“do you think Australia is heading in the wrong direction?” Etc) half of the questions I have to say neither yes nor no because the question is unsound.
Like “Which party do you trust to keep interest rates down, Liberal or Labor?”
“Neither, it’s not up to them.”
“Which party do you trust to keep taxes lower?”
“I believe in paying taxes to pay for the services and institutions of a functioning society.”

funny, sad and true!

They are treating a metaphorical elephant stampede as a circus act with their policy clown shows.
Just get it over with.

Not many independents talking about Gaza either

None of these vital issues are being canvassed by ALP or LNP. Australia is an outlier in the eyes of the EU & all of Asia.
Locally, ALP is lightyears ahead of the LNP.
