I force myself to go outdoors. Open spaces make me feel like I'm connected to something bigger and, paradoxically, when there are no other people around, it feels less lonely.
Cats. Seriously, I haven't worked for a long time since my disability made it too difficult to work. My wife works long hours. Sometimes just chilling with them keeps loneliness at bay.

If it’s a rare close friend, I just say it earnestly.
If it’s more a friendly acquaintance that I would like to get to know better, I suggest catching up over a movie or whatever common interest.
I also try to diversify my "pool" of friends-in-the-making because 1/2
So I joined a book club, I go to social activities announced on FB/Meetup, etc. And sometimes I meet interesting people for future chats/outings.
These days, honestly, protests are great for that sense of community, too!
